Man Captures Rare Moment Of A Chameleon Laying Eggs In His Garden In Tamil Nadu
Srinivisan Ramesh went out for a walk in his garden on Saturday when he came across the lizard giving birth. Mr Ramesh is a retired commander from the Navy. He immediately took out his phone and captured the egg-laying process in his garden.
Most of us have seen chameleon lizards in gardens or parks, and if you were lucky enough, you also might've caught a glimpse of it changing colours. One man from Tamil Nadu happened to see something even rarer.
According to a report by NDTV, Srinivisan Ramesh was out for a walk in his garden on Saturday when he came across a chameleon laying eggs. Mr Ramesh, who is a retired commander from the Navy, immediately took out his phone and recorded the process.

In the snapshots from the video that was shot, you can see that the chameleon is green and brown in colour and is laying eggs into a small hole in the ground. The incident took place in Mr Ramesh's garden in his home at Tambaram in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Indian chameleons are usually found in shades of green and brown but they can change colour rapidly, for the purpose of communication or as a way to monitor and control their body temperature. The Indian chameleon is also known as Chamaeleo zeylanicus. Around the world, there are over 200 species of chameleons found.

Most of these species lay eggs which means they are oviparous. The female chameleon digs up a hole in the ground and lays the eggs there to keep them safe. The eggs usually begin to hatch after three to twelve months, depending upon the species of the reptile.
