Maharashtra, the worst-hit state when it comes to COVID-19 cases, faced another threat in the form of cyclone Nisarga. Nisarga made landfall near Alibaug on Maharashtra coast with a reported wind speed of more than 110 km per hour and heavy rainfall on June 3.
While in Mumbai there was no loss of life and cases of uprooted trees and tin roofs were reported, it was places like Raigad that faced the wrath of the storm.
According to reports, the NDRF personnel have not been able to reach the cyclone-affected areas of Raigad district where two deaths--Amar Jawalekar (16) from Shrivardhan in a wall collapse and Dashrath Waghmare (58) after a power transformer fell on him at Umate village--and destruction to properties have been reported.
Manjabai Navale, 65, of Wahagaon village in Khed tehsil and Prakash Maokar, 52, of Mokarwadi in Haveli tehsil also perished, according to a TOI report.
Several houses have been destroyed in Maval, Khed, Ambegaon, Bhor, Velhe and Junnar tehsils due to the cyclone's gusts. The tehsil administration will carry out "panchanamas and a ground assessment on Thursday," district collector Naval Kishore Ram told TOI.

¡°It¡¯s been difficult to proceed towards the south of Alibaug, which has been worst-affected by cyclone Nisarga. Though we¡¯re equipped with mechanical tree cutters, it¡¯s difficult to cut big tree trunks and remove them from the road that is hindering our movement. We worked through the night to clear blockages on major roads in the district, where fallen trees, had disrupted traffic,¡± he added.
A day after the cyclone passed Mumbai, no serious damages were reported but it seems like the cyclone left behind heavy showers. On June 4, residents woke up to torrential rains.
