Video: Critically Endangered Javan Rhino Enjoys Mud Bath In Indonesia
Video of critically endangered Javan Rhino is going viral on Twitter in which it can be seen enjoying a mud bath. The video was captured by a hidden camera.
The Javan rhino is a critically endangered animal with only 72 left in the world, and one of them was recently caught on a camera gleefully taking a mud bath.
The video that now has over a million views was posted on Twitter by Indonesia¡¯s environment minister, Siti Nurbaya Bakar, shows one of the world¡¯s largest mammal rolling in the muddy waters of Ujung Kulon's national park, on the westernmost tip of Indonesia's Java island.
She shared the video with the caption, ¡®A Javan rhino (Rhinocerus sondaicus) captured by a video trap with a duration of 2 minutes and 15 seconds in a waterfall in the Cigenteur Block of Ujung Kulon National Park¡¯. She goes on to mention that the male rhino rolling in the puddle is over seven years old.
Rhinos roll in mud and water to maintain their body temperature, get essential minerals and to rest (basically chill).

She mentions that the rhinos take the ¡®bath¡¯ at least twice a day and sometimes the session can last as long as three hours.
In 2019, Javan Rhino population in Indonesia was at 72 of which 39 are reportedly male and 33 female.
¡®The conservation efforts of the Javan Rhinoceros in Ujung Kulon National Park are carried out through the protection and security of the Ujung Kulon National Park area through routine patrols¡¯, she mentioned in the tweet thread.
