Two Storms Are Expected To Hit The Gulf Coast In US Back-To-Back This Week
Two storms, storm Marco and storm Laura have been predicted to hit the Gulf of Mexico back to back this week. Storm Marco already arrived in some places.
In trying to outdo itself everyday, 2020 might have another disaster to offer. This week, reportedly for the first time, two hurricanes are predicted to hit the Gulf of Mexico almost at the same time.
Twice before, in 1959 and 1933, two tropical storms entered the Gulf at the same time. But never before have both been hurricanes.
However, that might not happen. Only one of the storms has strengthened into a tropical storm, a cyclone, but not a hurricane yet. The other is still a tropical depression and its future is not yet clear but the storms are following the same path.
One of the tropical storms, Marco hit Louisiana coast on Monday according to the forecast. Storm Laura is not far behind and the threat of twin storms still remains for the coast of Louisiana and Texas. Tropical storm Marco made landfall in Louisiana near the mouth of the Mississippi river, according to the National Hurricane Centre.
It was later downgraded to a tropical depression. It is the tropical Storm Laura that is a far more dangerous threat. It is predicted to reach near major hurricane strength by the time it slams into the coast of Louisiana or Texas by mid week. Till now it has brought heavy rain and flash flooding to Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and parts of Cuba.

¡°Our sights are on Laura now, it has the potential to be a major hurricane,¡± Sun Sentinel quoted Louisiana Governor John Bell Edwards as saying in a news briefing. Storm Laura is not expected to weaken overland before moving into warm Gulf waters.
¡°All indications are that Laura will steadily gain strength as it sets its menacing sights on the Texas and Louisiana coasts,¡± Mike Chesterfield, director of weather presentation at The Weather Channel reportedly said.

He further said, ¡°The recipe is there for a dangerous hurricane to make landfall late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. All coastal residents in states that border the northwestern Gulf of Mexico should begin their preparations now by checking their evacuation kits, monitoring the latest forecasts, and listening to their local officials.¡±
Only after sometime this week the actual damage caused by the two storms can be estimated.
