The Future Of Music? Drake And The Weeknd-inspired, AI-Generated Song Goes Viral
An AI-generated song that sounds like a collaboration between Drake and The Weeknd has gone viral, raising questions about the future of music production.
With ChatGPT, artificial intelligence has not only begun to revolutionise the world of communication, but in all of its forms, it's about to change every industry, including music.
This song, for instance, was allegedly created using nothing more than an AI: no human was involved in creating a song that no one could tell if it was real or fake. In the song, Drake's and The Weeknd's voices were cloned using artificial intelligence.
The song, Heart On My Sleeve, features the two stars trading verses about the pop star and actress Selena Gomez, who previously dated The Weeknd.

If you hadn't already guessed, you'd think the song was real - it's that realistic - but it's not and is yet another artificial intelligence product. The two-minute fake song has since gone viral leaving people amazed at how natural it sounds.
In the video, you can see the lyrics of the music, which goes like this,
"I came in like Selena to flex,
bumpin' Justin Bieber, the fever ain't gone away."
She knows everything she needs, and I need her, so she blessed me by giving her my best.
What's up with my heart on my sleeve and a knife in my back? In the song, Drake's clone raps,
"Aye, 21; I love him that my brother, that's my slatt."
The Weeknd follows, who also sings about Selena, whom he dated from 2015 to 2017. The AI-generated song has been streamed over 2,50,000 times in just three days on Spotify.

This sounds like shit, genuinely. Even mediated by pitch correction and effects, you can't fake the intimacy, imperfection, and physicality of the human voice. Vocaloids accept that and lean into it. This just sounds empty.

If the ability exists to create the voice, then the ability to detect the voice should also be possible.

I will be speaking with audio detection technologists about this asap??
The ability to create unlimited music on demand with AI may be a possibility in the future, but it would likely raise complex legal and ethical issues related to copyright and artistic ownership.

It would need to be carefully considered and regulated before becoming a reality.
