A bride in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur was about to exchange garlands with her groom when she heard the news that she has won the block development council seat in panchayat elections in the state.
The wedding took place on May 2, and the counting of panchayat elections was also to be held on the same day. 28-year-old Poonam Sharma, left the ceremony midway and rushed to the counting center dressed in all her bridal finery.
According to a report in The Times of India, Poonam, a resident of Mohammadpur Jadid village, rushed to the counting centre which was 20km from the wedding venue to receive the certificate at 9.30pm on Sunday. The officials at the counting centre were stunned to see her in bridal wear.
A video of the incident has also gone viral on Twitter where she is seen receiving the certificate. "Jaimala chhod kar aayi hoon," she is heard saying. Then, she receives the certificate from the authorities, and poses for the customary photo with the officials.

The remaining rituals of the wedding were performed after she came back with the certificate, TOI reported.
"This is the best wedding gift for me as I am a BDC member now. I can never forget this moment as all the rituals were complete and just before the 'varmala' I was told that I had won the election by 31 votes," she told TOI.

She further added that her in-laws were more than happy to allow her to go get the certificate right in the middle of the wedding.
