Salt Bae Pledges To Serve 'Unlimited¡¯ Food To 5,000 People In Turkey After Catastrophic Earthquake
The well-known restaurateur has promised to feed at least 5,000 earthquake victims daily by sending a mobile kitchen to the affected area.
In the wake of the terrible 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria, several nations and organizations have pledged to send rescue personnel, emergency supplies, and other forms of assistance.
Nusr-et Gokce, commonly known as 'Salt Bae,' is a celebrity chef from the Turkish province of Pasali who has stepped forward to aid his fellow countrymen in the wake of the calamity.
The well-known restaurateur has promised to feed at least 5,000 earthquake victims daily by sending a mobile kitchen to the affected area.
The 39-year-old chef described his food drive as his "most important and meaningful service in the world."
One of the Instagram videos shows a mobile kitchen with his name written on the side, packing up and leaving a warehouse where it was being stored. ''We started serving hot food to more people, targeting 5,000 people daily.''
The video shows cooks using enormous pots and containers to prepare meals in quantity for service.
While this is happening, a line of survivors can be seen waiting in the subzero temperatures outside the vehicle. The next segment of the video shows employees delivering hot meals to people of varying ages.
Most Instagram users hailed Salt Bae; however, some suspected it was a marketing hoax.
Some people took exception to the fact that he posted close-up and slow-motion photos of the kitchen.
"If you are doing it for advertising, may God not accept it," wrote one user. The majority of people supported and lauded him for his efforts.
"In times of tragedy, it's the ones who show up and make a difference that truly shines. May God bless and protect our heroes on the frontlines," wrote one user.
"Well done, so helpful in this time of need," said a third. "All the people who have nothing nice to say about this, when you are feeding 5000+ hot meals a day in the area and paying for it yourself, then you can speak until you shut up."
Another netizen wrote, 'This made my heart smile. You are now sprinkling kindness, Saltbae.''
The well-known Turkish chef Burak Ozdemir is another of Turkey's culinary stars, and he has also set up mobile kitchens around the country to provide people with hot meals.
On Monday, the number of people confirmed dead due to the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria the previous week surpassed 35,000, even as rescue workers began to wind down their search for survivors. The earthquake is the sixth worst natural disaster to strike the world in this century.
