Ex-Google Employee Shares A 'Day In My Life' Documenting Her Layoff
Tsai was a program manager at Google and was laid off in the recent mass termination of employees in the company, where the tech giant let go of over 12,000 employees. She shared in the video that she woke up to an "ominous" text one day out of the blue after she was contacted by her boss, as she found out her company properties had been locked and cut off all her access.
She narrated in her mini-vlog, "I rushed downstairs to find out that I had lost access to basically everything. I couldn't log into my email or even check my calendar." She continued to narrate how the process went down: "I called my boss back, and we just sobbed over the phone because she was also finding out about my layoff for the first time today too."
The ex-employee shared that the whole day when she found out about her termination, she cried and scrolled through LinkedIn, where she saw how many of her colleagues were sharing their own stories about being let go from the company.
The Vlogger Shared That Her Lay Off Felt Like A 'Bad Game Of Russian Roulette'
Tsai said in the video, "I think the worst part is that it seems like no one was consulted on this decision, and everyone was just finding out about the layoffs at the same time. It just felt like a really bad game of Russian roulette."
She then added, "There was no consistency around who was let go. It was also not performance based so it just felt really random." At the end of the video, Tsai shared that she was so out of it that she decided to go to Disneyland to lift her spirits back up again.
