Good Friday 2020: Date, Significance And Everything You Need To Know
Good Friday marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his demise at the Calvary. This day holds a special place in the hearts of the Christian community across the globe. Good Friday is observed during the pious week as part of the Paschal Triduum on Friday prior to Easter Sunday.
In 2020, Good Friday will be observed on April 10.
Good Friday date varies each year as per both Gregorian and Julian Calendars. It is commonly known by the names like Holy Friday, Great Friday and Black Friday. The good in the name stands for pious or holy.
In the holy book Bible, there is no mention of the term Good Friday, but from what religious literature has recorded, it is believed that Jesus was betrayed by Judas which led to his crucifixion.
Beside this, the Roman soldiers had beaten up Christ and had forced him to carry the cross on which he had to be crucified. The day of crucifixion is believed to be a Friday while the day he resurrected from death is believed to a Sunday. Sunday is celebrated as Easter.
A question which remains unanswered is why the day is called &Good* Friday. However, people believe that the term is referring to holy or pious in this context.
What happens on Good Friday?
There are many ways in which Good Friday is 'celebrated', the most common thing is prayers. There are mass gatherings held at the church, and many churches have the Stations of the Cross. Some people host guests as well during the afternoon where they serve tea and buns.
Good Friday Quotes:
Christmas and Easter can be subjects for poetry, but Good Friday, like Auschwitz, cannot. The reality is so horrible it is not surprising that people should have found it a stumbling block to faith.§求 W.H. Auden
※The dripping blood our only drink,
The bloody flesh our only food:
In spite of which we like to think
That we are sound, substantial flesh and blood-
Again, in spite of that, we call this Friday good.§求 T.S. Eliot
※If Christ is God, He cannot sin, and if suffering was a sin in and by itself, He could not have suffered and died for us. However, since He took the most horrific death to redeem us, He showed us in fact that suffering and pain have great power.§求 E.A. Bucchianeri, Brushstrokes of a Gadfly
※Good Friday is not about us trying to "get right with God." It is about us entering the difference between God and humanity and just touching it for a moment. Touching the shimmering sadness of humanity's insistence that we can be our own gods, that we can be pure and all-powerful.§

※I am wholly deserving of all the consequences that I will in fact never receive simply because God unashamedly stepped in front of me on the cross, unflinchingly spread His arms so as to completely shield me from the retribution that was mine to bear, and repeatedly took the blows. And I stand entirely unwounded, utterly lost in the fact that the while His body was pummelled and bloodied to death by that which was meant for me and me alone, I have not a scratch.§求 Craig D. Lounsbrough
