Harsh Weather & Inconsiderate Customers: This Is How Tough It Is To Be A Food Delivery Guy
In the service industry a delivery guys job is one of the most underpaid and underappreciated with a lot of stress involved. From long working hours to enduring extremely difficult working conditions these people are in a thankless profession owing to their financial circumstances.
Come hail or high waters, it is common to see delivery people on motorcycles and even bicycles, carrying a food box attached at the end, delivering orders to offices and homes. They cut through the traffic and navigate difficult locations, all in a bid to deliver the food on time and they are more often than not, pressed for time.
In the service industry, a delivery guy's job is one of the most underpaid and underappreciated, with a lot of stress involved. From long working hours to enduring extremely difficult working conditions, these people are in a thankless profession owing to their financial circumstances.
Here are a few instances that reveal the harsh realities of a delivery guy's job:
1. When this Pakistani delivery guy broke into tears for not being able to deliver an order on time.
Facebook user Waseem Altaf shared pictures of a food delivery agent wearing a helmet and carrying the delivery box on his back and crying profusely.
According to the post, this delivery boy was crying on the road because he could not deliver an order on time, due to heavy rain. The customer refused to receive the food and the bill amounting to Rs 3,800 (Dh90) would now be deducted from his salary which is Rs 10,000 (Dh237). Can we not be a bit more considerate towards such people who work hard to earn rather than beg?
The post quickly went viral and many expressed anger at the mistreatment of the delivery personnel.
2. Inhuman work conditions of a Big Basket delivery boy
Back in 2018, Facebook user Saurabh Trivedi shared horrifying pictures of a delivery boy working with popular brand - Big Basket.
In the post, Trivedi said that he was literally 'bending forward' with the weight of the bag and was sweating as the temperature outside was 43 degrees.
Trivedi wrote, 'He told me that his income is based on the number of the order he delivers in a day and company is not concerned about their plight'.
3. Specially-abled delivery boy delivering food on his tricycle
Last year, Zomato delivery guys had been in the news for both good and bad reasons - one of the good reasons was a video which showed a specially-abled Zomato delivery guy using a hand-powered tricycle to deliver food.

Soon after the video went viral, Deepinder Goyal, founder of Zomato, revealed that the man, named Ramu Sahu, had graciously accepted the electric vehicle that was given to him by the company.
4. When employees have to brave harsh weather to get food delivered on time
A few weeks ago, Twitter user named Aakash Vinay shared an incident when an old man came to deliver his food at night. In a series of tweets, Aakash shared that it was one of the coldest winters Bengaluru had ever experienced and the old man was literally shivering while handing him the food.
Moved by what he saw, Aakash went on to urge everyone to be more empathetic to the plight of these delivery service employees. In his tweets, he wrote, 'If you have a shawl or a jacket that you can give away, do that. It'll mean the world to them. If you can part ways with the 20 bucks that he owes you like change, that serves as warmth too. If you've been able to put a smile on his face, trust me you've earned yourself one too'.This isn't a rant or a plea. This is just a reaction from seeing an old man shivering while handing me my dinner. God didn't put you in the shoes you're in because he likes you more than he likes anyone else. You got lucky. So the least we can do is be kind to those who aren't.

The next time you berate a delivery guy for their late service or a problem with the order, think twice. The least you can do is be a little empathetic and probably listen to their stories and give them an extra tip for their hard work.
