Some locations have banned violators or anyone trying to increase their following by exploiting sacred backdrops in their videos.
There are several incidents involving TikTok and YouTube creators at well-known landmarks.
The most recent instance comes from Nepal, where officials and site managers have banned influencers from visiting historical and religious sites like the Ram Janaki and Gadhimai temples, the Buddhist pilgrimage site Lumbini, and Kathmandu's Boudhanath Stupa.
"Making TikTok by playing loud music creates a nuisance for pilgrims from all over the world who come to the birthplace of Gautama Buddha," the Lumbini Development Trust¡¯s Sanuraj Shakya told the Rest of World.
"We have banned TikTok-making in and around the sacred garden, where the main temples are located."
On social media, there are many short videos of primarily young women dancing their way through holy sites, which may be found by searching for recordings of famous destinations.
Security personnel and surveillance cameras have been placed at various locations around Nepal to catch and expel lawbreakers.
Is filming at sacred sites a new trend?
A Russian yoga influencer nudely photographed in Bali under a sacred tree earlier this year was deported.
Instagram sensation Alina Fazleeva, also known as Alina Yoga to her followers, posed beneath the 700-year-old kayu putih, or weeping paperbark tree, provoking officials to step in.
Aline deleted the original photos and released an apologetic video in response to the outrage from the public.
She said: "I apologise to all Balinese and Indonesian people; I regret my actions."
The influencer continued: "I'm so embarrassed; I didn't mean to offend you in any way; I absolutely have no knowledge of this place. I just prayed under a tree and went straight to the police station to explain this incident and apologize."
