Woman Thinks Restaurants With 'Pure Veg' Signs Are Offensive, Viral Tweet Sparks Debate Online
Even in this day and age, India has a large vegetarian population when compared to the rest of the world. Somehow down the line, Indian restaurants started a trend of putting up neon signs to advertise that they served "pure veg" food in their outlets. It seems these signs can be offensive to some people.

Twitter User Thinks 'Pure Veg' Signs On Food Outlets Are Discriminatory
At least that¡¯s what Twitter user @hoopoe_is_here¡¯s opinion on the signs is. The user shared her opinion on the platform and pointed out that the ¡°pure veg¡± signs on restaurants were offensive and perpetuated discriminatory ideas. She wrote, ¡°All these "pure veg" signs across food outlets are offensive and un-inclusive. Blatantly implying that other food preferences are "impure" and legitimizing the discrimination against people with diverse preferences.¡±

A fellow Twitter user replied to her later tweet about tenants being refused the opportunity to rent houses based on their food preference, "Wow, from pure veg restaurants to people refusing to allow a tenants who aren¡¯t veg. This moved fast. ¡®Pure veg¡¯ means just that. That they serve purely veg food. Not "veg is only pure and everything else is impure", as your argument seems to suggest."

Meat Consumption In India Has Increased With A Rise In Income
According to a survey by CNN-IBN from 2007, the vegetarian index in India consists of around 31 percent of the population. Surely, the number has only decreased over the years as meat consumption in the country has reached new highs. From recent surveys, we find out that meat consumption has peaked with a rise in income. As per the OECD, India consumed six million tonnes of meat in 2020.
Continuing the thread, a commenter refuted the argument that "Common sense is becoming increasingly uncommon among 'woke' people."

Another user gave their own analysis of the sign, ¡°Pure ghee doesn't mean other ingredients are impure. It means there is no adulteration. Pure veg means it's made in a kitchen that doesn't cook non veg.¡±

You will do anything for likes and followers.
A fellow wrote how the practice could be for ethical reasons more than discriminatory, ¡°It's better to display before hand rather than every person coming and asking..and how eating non vegetarian is a choice..eating vegetarian and running only vegetarian restaurant is also personal choice..you can't deny it.¡±

It is the choice of the outlets themselves. If someone wants non veg they have many other outlets catering to them. And pure veg implies food that doesn't have even eggs. That's all.
