UK PM Rishi Sunak Sacks Several Ministers, Appoints Dominic Raab As Deputy PM: Reports
Dominic Raab, former Deputy Prime Minister to former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, will also take on the role of Secretary of State for Justice.
Within an hour of meeting with King Charles III, the new UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, started delivering his promise that "work would begin immediately." Before forming his new cabinet, several of Liz Truss's teams of ministers were asked to quit.
By evening, Jeremy Hunt was elected finance minister, and Dominic Raab was appointed deputy prime minister.
Four ministers have already been asked to resign so far. According to insiders, these include Development Minister Vicky Ford, Work, and Pensions Secretary Chloe Smith, Justice Secretary Brandon Lewis, and Business Secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg.
Dominic Raab, former Deputy Prime Minister to former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, will also take on the role of Secretary of State for Justice.
The Prime Minister's official Twitter handle said that Jeremy Hunt, who took over for Kwasi Kwarteng as finance minister, will continue in that role. In his first address as prime minister, Mr. Sunak promised to put "economic stability and competence" at the center of his government's agenda.
"Trust is earned, and I will earn yours," he said, describing his election as a measure to correct the "mistakes" of his predecessors.
Mr. Sunak added that his government would fulfill its commitment to a stronger NHS (National Healthcare system), excellent schools, safer streets, support for the armed services, raising the bar, and job creation.
It will have "integrity, professionalism, and accountability at every level," he said.
I will unite our country, not with words, but with action.

The UK is currently experiencing a severe economic slump that is going into recession. The Conservative party has been under fire for allegedly doing nothing to deal with the problem.
Mr. Truss, who served as Mr. Sunak's predecessor, resigned last week after her mini-budget, which included a sizable portion of unfunded tax cuts, startled the markets. The economic turmoil was unaffected by Jeremy Hunt's about-face, whom she appointed after sacking Kwasi Kwarteng.
On concerns about rising debt, bond rates soared, and the pound fell to a record low against the dollar.

Although Mr. Sunak's takeover had 'almost' stabilized the situation, Mr. Hunt had spoken of "difficult decisions" in the coming days.
The sentiment was shared by Mr. Sunak in his speech today. But he said that "compassion" would be used to temper it.
Rishi Sunak, the first Indian-origin and Hindu Prime Minister of the UK, wore the sacred red Hindu 'Kalawa' thread during his first speech at 10 Downing Street.
What is Kalawa?
Mouli or Kalawa is a cotton red thread roll, considered very sacred and used for all religious purposes of the Hindus.
The thread is used as an offering of cloth to the deity. The Mouli thread is an integral part of any puja.
By tying it on the hand, you win over the enemy, and it acts like your defense. Sunak was seen wearing "Kalawa" when he waved to the public from outside No 10 Downing Street.
"You saw me during COVID doing everything I could to protect people and businesses with schemes like furlough. There are always limits, more so now than ever. But I promise you this: I will bring that same compassion to the challenges we face today," he said.
