The Triple Long Haul Rack, dubbed as ¡®Anaconda on Rails¡¯, connected three freight trains together. The locomotives were run by a diesel crew, a loco pilot and an assistant loco pilot.
According to an New Indian Express report, SECR came up with the idea of connecting three goods trains using the latest technology of Distributed Power Control System (DPCS).
"With technology breaking new grounds, this novel concept in SECR of amalgamating 177 wagons creates a national record," Tanmay Mukhopadhyay, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (SECR-Raipur division) told Express.

"The initiative carries multiple benefits. It saves the rail path and the crew members (manpower) besides the remotely electronic controlling of other two locos (engines) by the leading engine improves efficiency, running quality with higher transporting potential. "
"By amalgamation, the maximum number of goods trains can run on one path reducing the pressure on rail traffic,¡± Tanmay Mukhopadhyay added.
A freight train takes 7 hours to cover the given distance of 250 km from Bhilai to Korba but 'Anaconda' took just 6 hours!
In March this year, East Coast Railway (ECoR ) conducted an experiment of running a 2-km-long train in Odisha. The ECoR joined three freight trains as one unit and named it 'Python Rake'.
The experiment was aimed at reducing manpower and raising economic path utilisation, an ECoR statement read.

"The Python Rake (three trains) took only one hour to pass the area. It saved time and energy and reduced pressure on rail traffic," Jaideep Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager of Sambalpur division told TOI.
