News of people hoarding toilet paper and hand sanitizers are being reported from around the world. But not everyone is hoarding these essentials to be well-prepared for the Coronavirus pandemic, some are doing so just to make money off it.
After the first coronavirus death in the United States, brothers Matt and Noah Colvin drove around Chattanooga, Tenn, they hit a Dollar Tree, then a Walmart, a Staples and a Home Depot. At each store, they cleaned out the shelves of hand sanitizers.
Over the next few days of their 1,300 mile road trip across Tennessee and into Kentucky, the two hoarded thousands of bottles of hand sanitizer and thousands of packs of antibacterial wipes. They hoarded a total of 17,700 sanitizer bottles!
Then Matt started to list them on Amazon. According to an MSN report, Colvin said he had posted 300 bottles of hand sanitizer and immediately sold them all for between $8 (Approx Rs 600) and $70 (Approx Rs 5,200) each. He made ¡®crazy money¡¯.
HAPPENING NOW: Matt did not answer our calls so we went to his storage unit. The AG¡¯s office was on the scene facilitating with the donation. This is the 3rd stop they¡¯ve been to this morning to gather the sanitizer. @WRCB https://t.co/SLOaEwJLOj pic.twitter.com/REJPNhiSbS

But the next day Amazon pulled his items and thousands of other listings for sanitizer, wipes and face masks. It suspended sellers profiting by selling these essentials at high prices, EBay did the same.
Now, they had no takers for the factory sized stock of sanitizers they had in their garage.
The brothers also received death threats from unknown callers and a 'cease and desist' order from the Tennessee Attorney General for charging unreasonable prices for sanitisers, masks, and other essential items.
Their sanitizer boxes were seized and will be donated to charity.
There are many like these brothers who are taking advantage of the situation, and that's despicable.
