Move over Narayana Murthy & SN Subrahmanyan, Bill Gates predicts a 2-day work week in the next 10 years
Bill Gates predicts that AI could revolutionise work, reducing the need for human labour to just two days a week within the next decade.

Step aside, Narayana Murthy and SN Subrahmanyan with your 70-90 hour workweeks - there's a new productivity guru in town! And it's none other than Microsoft founder Bill Gates, ready to claim the title of Gen Z's favorite billionaire. How? By predicting that in the next 10 years, humans may need to work just two days a week! Yes, you read that right, one of the world's richest men (currently 7th on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index) just gave us the ultimate dream, and we are all ears!
Nowadays, AI is the answer to everything
Bill Gates believes AI is set to shake up the job market so much that humans may only need to work two days a week within the next decade!
In a February episode of The Tonight Show, which is now going viral, the Microsoft co-founder discussed how AI could revolutionise industries like medicine and education by making expert services more widely accessible.
"And it's [AI technology] kind of profound because it solves all these specific problems, like we don't have enough doctors or mental-health professionals, but it brings with it so much change," Gates said.
The 69-year old founder also speculated about how work itself might evolve: "You know, what will jobs be like? Should we, you know, just work like 2 or 3 days a week? So I love the way itĄŻll drive innovation forward, but I think it's a little bit unknown."
This isn't the first time Gates has floated this idea. Back in 2023, as AI tools like ChatGPT were taking off, he predicted that society could eventually shift toward a three-day workweek.
What do you think? Could AI free us from the traditional 9-to-5 grind? And if so, how do you think humans would be spending all that extra free time?
