It's that time of year again when people rush to Manhattan streets to photograph the meeting of human engineering and nature. Expectedly, many people have uploaded images of the breathtaking sights on numerous social media platforms, particularly X.
What is Manhattanhenge?
Neil deGrasse Tyson, a renowned astrophysicist, coined the phrase "Manhattanhenge" in 1997.
In an article published in Natural History magazine, he made an interesting similarity between the "sun's rays striking the centre of the Stonehenge circle on the solstice" and the occurrence in Manhattan.

He was reportedly inspired by Stonehenge, England's mystery megaliths, on a visit there as a teenager.
When does it take place?
Although there is no set date, the unusual phenomenon usually takes place three weeks before and after the solstice. The first event of 2024 occurred on May 29. This year's event will take place on July 12 and 13.
