Ever heard of an internship that can deposit lakhs of rupees into your bank account? Saishwari Patil, an investment banker, recently won Rs 9 lakh with one such internship. Job description? Just sleep! The banker just won the title of 'Sleep Champion' in Wakefit's third season of its innovative sleep internship program.
What was the internship all about?
The sleep internship, which is intended for people who struggle to get enough rest, requires participants to sleep at least eight to nine hours per night. Saishwari was one of twelve "sleep interns," each of whom received a quality mattress and a contactless sleep tracker to monitor their sleep patterns.
Interns also attended courses conducted by professional sleep mentors to improve their sleeping patterns.
The internship selection procedure consisted of several parts. Initially, submissions were vetted to produce a shortlist, followed by a video resume round in which candidates displayed their enthusiasm for sleep. Personal interviews were then conducted with the finalists to assess their motivation to improve their sleep quality.
How was the intern's experience?
Saishwari spoke with The Hindu about her experience and the discipline required for success. She stressed the need to have consistent wake-up and sleep periods in order to attain a good average score.
This included limiting late-night behaviours such as binge-watching and surfing on social media, which she admitted were difficult to break but eventually rewarding.
She also said that her profession as an auditor, which requires long hours, had interrupted her sleep schedule, making the internship particularly useful to her.
