Did you know in Japan wives oversee family finances and provide husbands pocket money?
In Japan, wives manage the family finances and give their husbands pocket money. They also take various measures to limit their spouses' expenses.
In India, it was typical for spouses to offer their hard-earned money to the women in the house to help with household chores. The women allocate cash appropriately, from carrying groceries to paying maid salaries. This ritual is still common in many parts of India.
You'd be astonished to learn that this custom is still practised in certain other countries.
What tradition do wives in Japan follow?
In Japan, wives manage the family finances and give their husbands pocket money. They also take various measures to limit their spouses' expenses. This practice is also known as Kozukai in Japan.
According to research, 74% of women in Japan manage their homes' budgets, while men just make money.
Who still practices this tradition?
According to the reports, Yoshihiro Nozawa, 36, used to pay his wife his entire salary at the beginning of each month.
After that, on the 15th of each month, his wife would return him 30,000 yen as pocket money, which is comparable to Rs 16,000.
The wife stated that when she had two children, ages six and eight, she decided to assume responsibility for the household's financial problems and began managing the bills herself.
Why is this practised in Japan?
In Japan, pocket money given to husbands is known as kozukai. This custom tries to reduce spouses' superfluous expenses while also encouraging men to be more productive.
According to reports, Japanese husbands offer their wives money for three reasons. The first is that in Japanese culture, males work while women are responsible for household responsibilities.
As a result, they are given the task of handling the household's finances. The second reason is that paying the complete money promotes trust and transparency between husband and wife in the marital connection.
This habit is also regarded as practical because, when the wife is at home with the children, she may need to spend money for their education, food, and other household expenses.
