Portugal President Rescues Two Women Whose Kayak Overturned
Videos of 71-year-old Portugal President Marcelo Rebelo swimming in the sea to rescue two women whose kayak had overturned are going viral.
The 71-year-old president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo, has become a hero in his country after he rescued two women from drowning.
The video of the 71-year-old rushing to help the women whose boat capsized in the sea and who were struggling to stay afloat, has gone viral on social media. Reportedly the kayak capsized off a beach in Algarve, Portugal.
President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was filmed swimming off of the Praia do Alvor beach in the Algarve, as he happened to be present on the beach at the moment.
Reportedly, the Portugal president was vacationing in the Algarve in a bid to promote tourism and had just spoken to the media when he encountered two women in the ocean.
Videos and images show him rushing to the women in distress. Given his age, it indeed is a heroic act.

The 71-year-old, later told the local media that the women were from another beach and said that it was the large west currents that caused their kayak to capsize.
In more footage from the beach the president can be seen wearing a mask at the beach in adherence with social distancing measures.
