Where did the incident take place?
The event, according to sources, happened earlier that day. A woman traveling from Bilekalli to Shivajinagar reportedly fought with the conductor over her ticket.
The footage shows the woman yelling in Hindi, "How dare you hit me!" as other passengers attempt to calm the conductor down. However, the situation worsens when the conductor turns angry, and the woman slaps him.
What did the bus conductor do?
In reaction, the conductor throws a torrent of fists at her. The woman then reported the attack to Siddapur police.
The woman filed allegations against the conductor at Siddapur police station. Following the event, the BMTC announced the conductor's suspension.
How was the situation handled by authorities?
"Based on the said social media news, disciplinary action has been reserved against Honnappa Nagappa Agasar, conductor, with immediate effect 'suspended'," according to the BMTC's official press release.
"The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation is stressing the protection of female passengers. The corporation has implemented measures such as separate seating for women on buses, separate doors, the installation of a panic button, CCTV, information boards, women's restrooms at important bus stations, and a helpline," the notification stated.
"Necessary steps are taken to ensure that women passengers feel safe travelling in company buses." Bangalore's transport company, which is dedicated to women's safety and comfort on board, requires "gender sensitization training" for its whole driving crew of 27,000.
"Our corporation has given priority to the safety of women, and strict disciplinary action will be taken against those found guilty of any kind of violence, rude behavior and untoward incidents against women passengers," the statement said.
