On this day, every year, without fail, the internet revives a particular video that is downright hilarious¡ªpoliticians shedding crocodile tears in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue. The video in question hails from 2019, a year that saw Samajwadi Party workers and local leaders gathering in a heartwarming tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his 150th death anniversary.
Enter Firoz Khan, the then Samajwadi Party district unit president, who took it upon himself to showcase his deep and, shall we say, overly enthusiastic affection for Gandhi.
So dedicated was he to the task at hand that tears of emotion were flowing, or at least that was the idea¡ªbecause viewers quickly noticed a distinct lack of actual tears.
But hey, who needs real tears when your wails could rival a dramatic Bollywood scene?
The video opens with all the flair of a cinematic masterpiece, featuring Khan bowed reverently at the feet of the Gandhi statue, handkerchief in hand.
With a voice choked with emotion, he laments, ¡°Desh ko azad karake, hume chhod ke kaha chale gaye aap. Itna bada desh, hume azad kara diya aapne, lekin jo humari tamannaye thi sab khatam hoti jaa rahi hai, sab bekaar hote jaa rahe hai bapu.¡±
And just beside him, a fellow worker wails dramatically, tears invisible but the sentiment loud and clear.
Now, if you thought this was a one-time spectacle, think again!
In 2021, Khan was back for an encore performance in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, where he again graced the scene by hugging a Gandhi statue and crying out, ¡°Bapu.¡±

It¡¯s truly a masterclass in political theatrics, a lesson in acting¡ªoops, I mean politics¡ªfrom a true connoisseur of the art.
