According to IIFL Wealth, Hurun India Rich List 2021 showed there are 432 Indians richer than India's biggest industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata.
It might be otherwise logical to expect that a person who has operated the largest business empire in India for nearly six decades and still holds huge influence on its companies will be among the top 10 or 20 richest Indians. But that is not the case. And the reason for this could be the massive philanthropy work that the Tatas do through the Tata Trust.
With an estimated revenue of US$103 billion as of 2021, the Tata group stands as one of the biggest groups not only in India but all over the world.

Sixty-six per cent of Tata Sons' equity is held by the Tata Trusts and dividends flow directly to support the philanthropic work of the Trusts. Over the past century and a half, the Tata group has calibrated its mission to address India's most urgent needs. Due to his charity work, any profit made by the company doesn¡¯t impact Ratan Tata¡¯s personal financial statement.
