Former K-pop idol Ahn Ye Song, also known as DJ Yesong, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for causing the death of a delivery worker while driving under the influence. The incident took place on February 3 when she killed a delivery driver with her Mercedes-Benz SUV in Seoul's Gangnam district. South Korean media outlets reported the Supreme Court confirmed the sentence on December 10.

Ahn Ye Song has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for the drunk-driving death of a delivery worker. On February 3, Ahn, heavily intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.221%, crashed into a motorcycle in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam, Seoul, causing the death of a 54-year-old delivery worker. The 24-year-old fled the scene without helping the victim, showing no sign of remorse. What's even more disturbing is that DJ Yesong had been involved in another accident just 10 minutes prior but left the collision without offering any aid to the victim.

She was sentenced to 10 years in prison in the first trial; however, the former K-pop star reached a settlement with the deceased's family, and her sentence was eventually reduced to 8 years. The prosecution had initially recommended a 15-year prison sentence, citing her lack of empathy and her legal team's attempt to shift blame onto the victim.

DJ Yesong's lawyer initially tried to shift focus from charges against her to victim blaming. Since she was heavily drunk, her lawyers emphasised that she had no recollection of the incident, recognising the need for alcohol addiction treatment.

However, despite largely admitting to the charges, her legal team argued that the tragedy could have been diverted had the victim taken a different route. This claim was made despite the prosecution's emphasis on DJ Yesong's reckless behaviour.

Who is Ahn Ye Song?

Ahn Ye Song, formerly of the pre-debut fourth-generation girl group INSTAR, was a member of the four-piece group formed by Inter B.D. Entertainment in 2016. Initially, Ahn replaced Heera, one of the original members, and later took on a rapper role. She briefly left the group in 2017 but rejoined in September of the same year.

After the group stopped activities in 2018 and presumably disbanded silently, Ahn began a new career as a DJ and was also active as a social media influencer.
