Wei Jianguo from Beijing left his home in 2008 after quarrelling with his wife. He has since chosen to spend days and nights at the Beijing Capital International Airport, which has three terminals. He has been putting up at Terminal 2.
The man is jobless and loves living at the airport. He says he can drink and eat at will.
He told the China Daily: "I can't go back home because I have no freedom there. "My family told me if I wanted to stay, I had to quit smoking and drinking. If I couldn't do that, I had to give them all my monthly government allowance of 1,000 yuan (AU$200). But then how would I buy my cigarettes and alcohol?"
The man has set up a mobile kitchen using an electric cooker he had brought from home. Other times, he would go around the airport to buy the food he likes.
The man said he had been laid off from work and received government subsidisation every month, which amounted to around 1,000 yuan (?112).
Wei is not the only person like that. A refugee named Mehran Karimi Nasseri from Iran lived in terminal one of Paris Charles de Gaulle for 18 years until 2006 when he was hospitalized. He was forced to live there as British authorities didn¡¯t allow him to Britain and the French authority also refused his entry back then.
