Company Accidentally Pays Employee Rs 1.4 cr Instead Of His Actual Salary. He Resigns & Disappears
A Chilean man was accidentally paid 286 times his salary last month. After promising to return the money paid in excess, the man resigned from the job and has reportedly disappeared.
Just imagine a scenario where you're going about your day and you receive a notification on your phone. Now, when you check what it is, the notification says that the company you're working at has transferred lacks or rather crores worth of salary to your account.
Sure, you're shocked, you go through the 'zeros' again and again and it says what you read. What would you do next? Well, a Chilean employee decided to disappear from the face of the earth - and we don't blame him.
Chilean company transfers 286 times an employee's salary.
An employee was mistakingly paid 286 times his salary last month. Now after this instance took place, the employee resigned from the company and disappeared after promising his employer that he would return the amount that was paid in excess.
This entire episode took place in the human resources area of ??the Food Industrial Consortium (Cial). This is a company that has under its control important Chilean brands such as San Jorge, La Preferida and Winter.
It is the largest company of cecinas (a type of dehydrated meat of Spanish origin) in Chile.
While the company was generally transferring salaries to the employees, there was an error which caused such a massive error. The company accidentally paid the employee 165,398,851 Chilean pesos (Rs 1.42 crore), instead of the 500,000 pesos (Rs 43,000) he was entitled to, according to local media.
What happened?
According to DF Mas, on May 30, one of the company's workers approached the deputy manager of the distribution centre to tell him that he noticed an error in the payment of his remuneration for May since he had been paid in excess. It was then discovered that the company had transferred him 165.3 million pesos more than his share. The employee was told that he had to go to the bank to generate what is called in Chile a ¡°voucher¡± in the name of Cial.
The worker allegedly agreed to go to his bank to refund the amount that was paid in excess to him. He had mentioned that he overslept which is why he didn't pick up the call earlier. It was the company's last contact with the worker. However, hours passed then days. There were no notifications or messages from the bank saying that there has been a refund.
However, on June 2, he came in with his lawyer and handed over his resignation and has now reportedly disappeared. Now the company has taken legal action against the man to recover the money they accidentally transferred to the man.
In Chile, misappropriation is included in the Penal Code and sanctions ¡°those who, to the detriment of another, appropriate or divert money, effects or any other movable thing that they have received in deposit, commission or administration.¡±
