2YO Boy Gets Swallowed Whole By Wild Hippo In Uganda, Animal Later Spits Out Toddler

A shocking incident took place recently in Uganda when a hippo swallowed a 2-year-old boy and then spat him out in one piece. Fortunately, the boy is reported to have survived the dangerous incident.

Hippo Attacks 2-Year-Old Toddler In Uganda

The toddler has been identified as Paul Iga. He was playing near his home by Lake Edward when a giant hippo grabbed the boy by the head and swallowed half of his body. Fortunately, a local named Chrispas Bagonza noticed the boy trapped in the animal's jaws and attempted to free him. Bagonza threw rocks at the hippo to save the boy.

The hippo was interrupted by the local's sudden attack and gave up the toddler quickly after it got scared. The Ugandan police official commented on the incident afterward and said, ¡°This is the first such kind of incident where a hippo strayed out of Lake Edward and attacked a young child.¡± The police also reported that the hippo had ¡°grabbed... the boy from the head and swallowed half of his body.¡±

They went on to commend the local who saved the boy, ¡°It took the bravery of one Chrispas Bagonza, who was nearby, to save the victim after he stoned the hippo and scared it, causing it to release the victim from its mouth.¡±

The Child Survived The Hippo Attack Miraculously

The child was rushed to the hospital after the horrific incident. It was a miracle that the boy was still alive after the hippo had grabbed a hold of him since the animal is known for its herculean strength. Paul survived the attack and was taken to a nearby clinic, after which he was transferred to a hospital in Bwera. The toddler was examined and administered shots for rabies as a precautionary step.

The attack was an unexpected occurrence, as hippos are herbivores and are known to not even harm fish; they can be deadly if threatened. Despite their vegetarian leanings, hippos are known for attacking humans if they get too close, as news about hippo attacks does travel around the world a considerable amount.
