You might have heard of people marrying frogs to appease the rain gods. If not, then you know that now.
Madhya Pradesh minister of state for woman and child development Lalita Yadav reportedly organised a unique ¡®frog wedding¡¯ last year saying it was a ¡®logical tradition¡¯ and not ¡®superstition.¡¯
An ¡®Ashad Utsav¡¯ was organised by the Madhya Pradesh minister, as well as a few other local Bharatiya Janata Party leaders. And this is just one incident. This year too a wedding between two frogs was organised, reportedly in Bhopal, sometime in July, when the state was dealing with drought. The idea was to please the Hindu god of rain, Lord Indra.
Apparently that worked a little too much and flooded Madhya Pradesh. So now, the married frog couple have been divorced¡ to stop the rains. This might as well be the first frog divorce in the world, on top of that, these were not even real frogs.

Reportedly, as of September 11, Madhya Pradesh has received 26% more rainfall than normal. And flood like situation threatens many parts of the state. It is pouring heavily in Bhopal and two days ago, 48 mm of heavy rain was recorded there.
¡®Two gates of Bhopal Kaliyasot Dam and Bhadbhada Dam have been opened. The gates of Kolar dam were also opened after three years to release the water.¡¯
To avoid more heavy rains, members of Om Shiv Seva Shakti Mandal of Indrapuri area divorced the frogs. There was reportedly an entire divorce ceremony so to speak; mantras were chanted too. People believe this could actually make a difference and, well, we all know how we Indians are when it comes to superstitions.
