Aisi Bhi Kya Bhakti: UP Villagers Mistake Saffron Coloured Toilet For A Temple, Start Praying!
People of Maudaha in Hamirpur district Uttar Pradesh have been praying to a saffron coloured building for more than a year now but it turns out it was a toilet all along. People believed it to be a temple and no one bothered to clarify It was only recently that an official told us that it was actually a toilet.
Ek hoti hai bhakti, then comes stupidity. The incident that we are going to talk about falls under the latter category. People of Maudaha in Hamirpur district, Uttar Pradesh have been praying to a saffron coloured building for more than a year now but it turns out it was a toilet all along.
People of the village offered prayers and performed puja outside the saffron coloured building¡¯s door, which was locked, according to IANS report. Apparently no one actually knew if any idol was installed inside or not, they just decided to pray because it was painted saffron.

"The building that is located in the premises of the community health centre, was painted saffron and shaped like a temple. People believed it to be a temple and no one bothered to clarify. It was only recently that an official told us that it was actually a toilet," IANS quoted Rakesh Chandel, a resident, as saying.
He also said that it was the saffron colour of the building caused the confusion. To avoid that anymore, the building has been painted pink.
Reportedly the toilet was inaugurated last year but for some reason it remained locked.
"This public toilet was built by the Nagar Palika Parishad around a year ago and the contractor had it painted saffron. The colour caused much confusion and people mistook it for a temple," said Chairman of the Maudaha Nagar Panchayat, Ram Kishore.
After the colour of the toilet was changed the confusion cleared up however the toilet is still not in operation because the authorities are playing the blame game.
According to the report, many toilets in several districts of Uttar Pradesh that were constructed under the Swachh Bharat scheme have been painted saffron.
Now I do not know whether this was done by the government knowingly or is it the stupidity of the public who seems willing to literally pray to a colour.
