Did You Know That People In Sweden Do Not Offer Food To Their Guests?
A recent revelation has left people very shocked about the fact that people in Sweden do not serve meals to their guests, even if they are eating themselves. Sounds pretty rude, right?
As Indians, we are always taught that 'Atithi Devo Bhava' which means your guest is your God. Now, we are known to be one of the most hospitable people in the world. We make sure that whoever comes to our house is properly fed, if not overfed.

The hashtag 'Swedengate' has been trending on Twitter after a Reddit thread where a user revealed how he was treated when he visited a Swedish friend's house. The question was about the "weirdest" experiences people have had at a friend's house due to their tradition or faith.
Not here to judge but I don¡¯t understand this. How¡¯re you going to eat without inviting your friend? pic.twitter.com/bFEgoLiuDB

The now-deleted response read, ¡°I keep in mind going to my swedish associates home. And whereas we had been taking part in his room, his mother yelled that dinner was prepared. And verify this. He informed me to WAIT in his room whereas they ate¡ [sic]."
That is when the 'Swedengate' hashtag started trending on the microblogging website.
Forget about Swedes not feeding their play date kids - what about adults having to bring their own sheets and towels when invited to spend the night? Lived there for 18 years, can confirm #swedengate

This Swede food saga is just wild to me. So you don¡¯t feed your guest, but accept food when it¡¯s offered to you. And you ask your guests to pay you back when you feed them. You can¡¯t convince me it¡¯s your culture, this is wickedness. #swedengate

My contribution to #swedengate - lived there for 6 mos. If you¡¯re invited by a swede to a house party, you take your own alcohol in a backpack and only drink from there. If someone takes a beer from you, they pay you for it. As a poor student, I thought it was efficient. ???¡â?

Friend¡¯s ex was a Swede. When fam/friends would visit she¡¯d keep a list of everything they ate & drank then she¡¯d send them a @Venmo request when they left. Today he¡¯s dating a Persian woman - his family/friends now say if he fcks this up they¡¯ll take her side not his #Swedengate https://t.co/elqTnkmXnr

the swedes being horrible wh!te people isn't shocking. its the part where they don't feed their GUESTS that's already IN THEIR HOUSE that's messing with me. this is another level of strange behavior that needs to be studied. so many wh!te cultures act like aliens! #Swedengate

People started attacking Sweden's hospitality traditions and even spoke about racism in the country.
Some people also tried to speak in Sweden's defence.
¡°As a Swede I would not say that is actually a tradition factor. It has extra to do with when company come unsuspected and there is not sufficient meals for everybody. We solely make sufficient meals we expect we are going to eat. In any other case they eat with the household. (At the least in my expertise)¡± a Twitter consumer wrote.
¡°[P]eople from poorer nations will share the final dry biscuits they should keep away from the disgrace of a visitor going hungry of their home whereas western euros are getting coronary heart assaults on the idea of perhaps making some further meals or finagling extra parts out of what¡¯s obtainable,¡± wrote another user.
