This Train In China Runs Through The Middle Of A 19-Storey Apartment Building
Residents also need not worry about noise pollution since the train is only projected to produce about 60 decibels of noise during its transit.
Getting to work in the morning may include a trip to the metro station for some of us, but in Chongqing, southeast China, people do things entirely differently.
The transit station within a 19-story apartment building that a train goes through is quite accessible for the residents.
Residents just need to head to the sixth or eighth level to catch the Chongqing Rail Transport No.2 at Liziba Station.
Chongqing, known as "Mountain City" for its many tall buildings, is home to 49 million people within only 31,000 square miles, so the city's railway engineers have had to be creative to come up with a way to accommodate everybody.
Thirteen years after it was opened, photos show the train passing through the middle of the apartment building.
Light rail is well-known as one of China's quietest rail lines due to its smoke-free design and low noise and vibration level. Designed to be as silent as a dishwasher, the train barely appears on the audibility scale.
Residents also need not worry about noise pollution since the train is only projected to produce about 60 decibels of noise during its transit.
When it was opened in 2004, municipal transport spokesperson Yuan Cheng noted,
'Our city is very heavily built upon, which can make finding room for roads, and railway lines a real challenge. Sometimes there isn't room on the ground, so we have to think about going under, or over, or - in this case - straight through. People wanted to get around quickly in a city as fast-paced as this. Extending the railway line this way was a gamble, but it paid off.'
WOW!
