UK Woman Accidentally Glues Her Eye Shut After Mistaking Nail Glue For Hay Fever Drops
A 35-year-old woman from the UK sealed her eye shut and almost lost her vision after mistaking nail glue for hay fever drops.
Remember the Gorilla glue incident when a woman glued her hair with the superglue and had to undergo surgery to get it removed? It was horrific, and an example of plain stupidity at its best was the lesson everyone took away from it.
Now, a 35-year-old woman from the UK sealed her eye shut and almost lost her vision after mistaking nail glue for hay fever drops.
Katie Beith was reportedly watching A Place In The Sun when she put the fast-drying glue into her right eye. She instantly felt a burning sensation in her eye and sought medical attention.
Katie suffered excruciating pain after she applied the super-fast-drying glue into her right eye, reported The Sun.
¡°My eye was really itchy from hay fever so I thought I would go and put some drops in quick. I couldn¡¯t find them in my bag,¡± said Katie.
"I looked on the side and there was the same bottle so I just grabbed it quick, went to the mirror to put them in, and I put the tiniest amount. I thought, 'Ooh, that burns. My eyes must be really sore'. Then I put another drop in for good measure and I thought 'that really burns'. I instantly looked at the bottle, ran to the kitchen, and started rinsing. It was really painful,¡± she added.
Even though she had applied just two drops of nail glue, it was enough to close her right eye completely.
After the blunder, she rushed to a neighbour's house and managed to reach a clinic 15 miles away.
Ironically, another patient had just visited the clinic for the same reason.
Katie said, "The doctor said in seventeen years she had never seen this happen and they had someone an hour before me who did it as well."
¡°Unfortunately, they can¡¯t do a lot, just put hot water on a cotton pad and rub it gently," she added.
¡°It was really painful. Last night, it did open, and when I looked there was a lump of dried glue under my eyelid. I had to try and work it out. Every time I looked to the right, I would scratch my eye and it would be really painful. It was very much a burning sensation," Katie said.
Her eye finally reopened around 9.30 pm and looked, "bloodshot, swollen and painful."
