After Indigo, Go First Employees Go On Sick Leave to Protest Against Low Salaries
Many employees of Go First airline have gone on sick leaves during the past three days to protest against their low salaries.This comes close on the heels of a sizeable number of IndiGo employees went on mass sick leaves last week, which led to cancellation of many flights.
After Indigo, the unrest over salaries in the aviation industry has spread to Go First, where nearly 70 cabin crew and some technicians across the airline¡¯s network have went on mass sick leave since three days to protest salary cuts, as per a report in The Hindu.
Go First¡¯s technicians, who maintain aircraft to ensure they are airworthy, went on mass sick leave at Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
As per PTI, a significant section of Go First aircraft maintenance technicians (AMTs) went on sick leaves during the past three days to protest against their low salaries This comes close on the heels of a sizeable number of IndiGo AMTs going on sick leaves last week in Delhi and Hyderabad on similar issue, triggering disciplinary proceedings against them by the airline.
IndiGo has asked the technicians concerned to report to the airline's doctor, along with necessary medical documents to verify if they were actually sick.
The sources said that some of the Go First's technicians who went on sick leaves during the last three days have written e-mails to the airline's management asking it to increase their salaries.

Last Week's Indigo Incident
This comes after more than 50% of Indigo flights were delayed about a week ago as a significant number of crew members went on a mass sick leave. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken note of the incident and ordered Indigo, which is India's largest airline, to present a report on the delays, as per officials.
It was noteworthy that these delays happened on the same day when Air India conducted a recruitment drive for similar roles across different centres.. It was reported that members of the staff were absent as they had apparently gone to apply for jobs in Air India.
The incident was seen as a further indication of the growing rift between Indigo and its employees amid paycuts.
After this incident, IndiGo has hiked salaries of pilots and cabin crew by 8% and made changes to its human resource (HR) policies, as the airline prepares for a busy festival season ahead.It reportedly plans to enhance capacity by at least 60%t, compared to the previous year.
