For some reason or another, former US President Donald Trump has often been in the headlines. But it's fair to say that one thing common to his fortune and wealth over the years has been the fluctuations.
Rollercoster Years For Donald Trump
From becoming US President in 2017, getting banned on Twitter in 2021, losing 2021¡¯s elections to Joe Biden, and now facing criminal charges, it's been a rollercoaster ride for Trump.
Even New York Attorney General Letitia James sued Donald Trump and his business in September 2022, saying the Trump Organisation had engaged in years of financial fraud by lying about the value of its assets to make itself look more creditworthy.
And as recently as yesterday,76-year-old Trump made a court appearance as he was confronted with a 34-count felony indictment accusing him of a scheme to bury allegations of extramarital affairs during his first White House campaign. Trump has pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges and said that the "US is going to hell". His next court appearance is due in December 2023. He reportedly faces up to 136 years in prison if found guilty on all counts for the criminal concealment.
Moreover, Trump is one of the frontrunners to become the Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential elections. And amidst all that has happened over the past few days and months, the former US President and business magnate¡¯s net worth too has been on a rollercoaster.
In 2017, the year in which he became the 45th President of the United States, his net worth was $3.5 billion, as per Forbes. Before that, he had a net worth of $4.5 billion in 2016, $4.1 billion in 2015, and $3.9 billion in 2014. During and after his presidential stint, his net worth was $3.1 billion in 2018 and 2019, $2.1 billion in 2020, $2.4 billion in 2021, $3 billion in 2022, and $2.5 billion as of present (2023).
Trump¡¯s Fortune
Not many are aware that Donald Trump appeared alongside his father Fred on the first ever Forbes 400 list in 1982, with a combined net worth estimated at $200 million.
As per Forbes, much of Trump's fortune remains tied up in New York City real estate, which has struggled in recent years as interest rates shot up, shoppers went online, and office workers headed home. The former U.S. president also owns golf courses and a winery, and has a stake in the parent company of Truth Social, his troubled social media app.
In 2019, he reportedly changed his official residence from Trump Tower in New York City to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, FL.
Recent Fall In Trump¡¯s Networth
Trump¡¯s fortune recently dropped from an estimated $3.2 billion in the fall of 2022 to $2.5 billion as of today. The biggest reason? His social media business, once hyped to the moon, has come crashing down, erasing $550 million from his net worth¡ªso far, as per a Forbes report.
For the uninitiated, in October 2021, Donald Trump announced the plan to build Truth Social, a few months after getting banned from Twitter. It was launched in February 2022.
