The couple's most valuable asset is Akshata Murty's stake in Infosys, an IT company based in Bangalore, co-founded by her father Narayan Murthy. The latest annual Sunday Times Rich List revealed Sunak and Murty's wealth stood at ?68.89 billion compared to ?55.98 billion in the previous year.

Murty's shares in Infosys saw a significant rise in value, increasing by 108.8 million pounds to nearly 590 million pounds in just one year, as reported by iTV.

Hinduja family remains at the top

The Hinduja family, of Indian origin, remains at the top of the 'Sunday Times Rich List' for 2024, with a wealth of GBP 37.196 billion. Their wealth increased over the past year, partly due to the opening of their new luxury hotel in London.

The Reuben brothers, also of Indian origin, rose to third place on the list with an estimated wealth of around GBP 24.977 billion. Lakshmi N. Mittal, owner of ArcelorMittal steelworks, slipped two places to eighth with GBP 14.921 billion, while Anil Agarwal of Vedanta Resources dropped one place to 23rd with GBP 7 billion.

Other Indian-origin billionaires on the list include Prakash Lohia at No. 30 with GBP 6.23 billion, Mohsin and Zuber Issa at No. 39 with GBP 5 billion, and Navin and Varsha Engineer at 58 with GBP 3 billion.

Overall, the 36th edition of the Rich List shows the largest decrease in billionaires in its history, dropping from 177 in 2022 to 165 this year. Compiler Robert Watts suggests that Britain's billionaire boom may have come to an end, with many entrepreneurs seeing their fortunes fall and some global super-rich individuals moving away from the country.
