Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos Donates $123 Million To Help Homeless Families In The US
After pledging to donate his entire wealth of $124 billion during his lifetime, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is giving $123 million to organizations that work to move homeless families into permanent housing in the US.
Over a week after Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said that he plans to donate the majority of his $124 billion net worth during his lifetime, the billionaire seems to have begun the donations.
Helping Homeless Families In The U.S.
Jeff Bezos is giving $123 million to organisations working to move homeless families into permanent housing, as per Bloomberg.
The grants will go to 40 groups in 26 US states and Puerto Rico, with the amount ranging from $600,000 to $5 million. These are the latest and largest awards from Amazon. co-founder¡¯s Day One Fund, which was founded in 2018. The donations are effective immediately and are part of a $2 billion total commitment to fighting homelessness, the Day One Fund said Tuesday in a statement, as per the report.
The organizations Bezos is funding in this round of grants reportedly include The Salvation Army, Denver Metro Area, Mother Nation: Honouring the Beauty and Strength of Native Families in Seattle and Homeless Alliance in Oklahoma City.
Big Donations By Bezos' Ex-wife Mackenzie Scott
Last week, after Jeff Bezos¡¯s interview mentioning his philanthropic plans, his ex-wife Mackenzie Scott announced that she was donating another $2 billion to various organisations. Scott has given away nearly $4 billion to 465 organizations in the span of less than a year, as per CNN.
In previous years, Mackenzie Scott has donated a lot of times.
In March this year, she donated $436 million to Habitat for Humanity International and 84 of its US affiliates. Mackenzie Scott had pledged in 2019 to give away the majority of her wealth.

Bill Gates To Donate Entire Wealth Too
Earlier this year, Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Bill Gates too had pledged to give away all his wealth and eventually "drop off" the world's richest people list.

Adding to this, he mentioned in the tweet: "As I look to the future, I plan to give virtually all of my wealth to the foundation. I will move down and eventually off of the list of the world¡¯s richest people."
However, as per BBC, Bill Gates had first pledged to give away his wealth in the year 2010 but his net worth has more than doubled since then.
