In 2022, India¡¯s insurance giant LIC not only rolled out its IPO but also entered the prestigious Fortune 500 global list for the first time. LIC is also ranked highly on the Fortune 500 India list, alongside several Tata Group companies. But who made the top ten list of the Fortune 500 India companies for 2022?
Here¡¯s the list of the 10 largest Indian companies that were India¡¯s top firms on the Fortune 500 India list in 2022 (The companies are ranked by total revenues for FY2022, including both public and private firms.)
1. Reliance Industries
Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries topped the Fortune 500 India list of 2022.

2. Life Insurance Corporation Of India (LIC)
While LIC¡¯s much-anticipated IPO has disappointed its investors ever since it got listed in May 2022, the insurance giant did manage to rank second on the Fortune 500 India list for 2022.

3. Indian Oil Corporation
Founded in 1959, Indian Oil Corporation Limited is a central public-sector undertaking under the ownership of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. It comes third on the Fortune 500 India list of 2022.
Indian Oil Corporation is among the top five performers in terms of net profit for public sector enterprises in FY22, according to a government survey.

4. ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited)
Oil and gas giant ONGC is placed 4th on the list. Founded in 1956, ONGC is a central public sector undertaking under the ownership of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. In FY2022-ONGC had reported a record net profit of Rs 40,305 crore.

5. State Bank Of India
India¡¯s biggest bank, SBI, features fifth on the list. In July 2022, SBI had surpassed insurance giant LIC to become the most valuable listed public sector undertaking (PSU) when its market capitalization surpassed that of LIC.

6. Bharat Petroleum Corporation
Founded in 1952, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited is an Indian central public-sector undertaking under the ownership of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India.
Last month, BPCL announced that its board of directors had approved the financial plan and capital expenditure for laying the piped gas network and building and operating eight city gas distribution (CGD) projects for an estimated investment of Rs 35,355 crore.

7. Tata Motors
Founded in 1945, Tata Motors is an Indian multinational automotive manufacturing company. It is a part of the Tata Group. which is planning to invest a mammoth $90 billion in technology and electric vehicles in the next five years. Tata Motors may also launch its iconic car, the Nano in EV form.

8. Tata Steel
Tata Group¡¯s oldest company, Tata Steel, was founded in 1907. Tata Steel made a mega announcement of merging seven subsidiaries-Tata Steel Long Products, The Tinplate Company of India, Tata Metaliks, TRF Limited, Indian Steel & Wire Products, Tata Steel Mining, and S&T Mining Company. This is an attempt to consolidate its metal business to drive efficiencies and reduce costs.

9. Hindalco Industries
Founded in 1958, Hindalco Industries Limited, an Indian aluminium and copper manufacturing company, is a subsidiary of the Aditya Birla Group. Hindalco¡¯s acquisition of Aleris Corporation in April 2020, through its subsidiary Novelis Inc., cemented the company's position as the world¡¯s largest flat-rolled products player and recycler of aluminium.

10. Tata Consultancy Services
Tata Group's IT behemoth TCS, founded in 1968, rounds out the top ten list of Fortune 500 India for 2022. Last year, Tata Consultancy Services more than doubled its brand value to $45.5 billion to become India's most valuable brand.

Besides these companies, the next 10 firms on the Fortune 500 India list of 2022 included (ranked from 11th to 20th): HDFC Bank, Larsen & Toubro, ICICI Bank, JSW Steel, HDFC Ltd., NTPC, Vedanta, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, and Coal India.
