We have seen many Bollywood movies and web series in the last two years depicting female bonding and girl gang. Whether it was Veere Di Wedding or Four More Shots, we saw 4 girls living life on their own terms.?
Ever thought what possibly inspired the makers for such kind of show. Well, many moons ago in 1998, a TV show maker was making a show that had romance, drama, comedy and sex in New York. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we are talking about Sex And The City, 22 years later too.
The story revolves around 4 girls from different backgrounds and professions, who have different perspective on love and sex, yet come together and confide their deepest, darkest secrets. After all, what are girlfriends for!?
2 decades later, dealing with a pandemic and home bound, I started watching the show all over again, for the fifth or sixth time, and realised I am never getting bored of this.?
Those who have seen it, will agree and those who are yet to, please maximise the lockdown. 2 decades, here's why we're still into Sex and the City so much.

? *theme song begins*?
1. Relatable AF?
You could have seen the show in the 90s or right now, the content of the show is so on point that you can relate to it even today. Whether it is Miranda, the lawyer who likes to plan even the morning sex or Carrie Bradshaw, the writer, who loves her space, her closet full of shoes, the show is about 4 girls trying to figure out their professional and personal goals. Isn't that all of us?
?2. Funny and meaningful?
When Samantha Jones talks about her choice of men with straight face or when Charlotte thinks one should wait for the D-Day before jumping into sex, we see two extremes getting along with house on fire. The wit, humour and Carrie Bradshaw's narration in the show makes you address some of your 'real life' problems.
?3. So progressive?
Can you believe this show is officially 22 years old. When we were frightened to even hold hands with a boy or girl, this show was out and about the boldest. It was a show that told you about things that do happen in real life but no one talks about it.?
Sex and the city shows women who like to work and equally respects women who want to quit their job. It shows how comfortable Miranda is having a child without getting married. The show shows how its okay for women to love sex and talk about dick. The show involved many people from different ethnicity as well, it covers LGBT in a really big way. It shows a modern woman as a sexual being, who likes things her way. A woman who is independent, fierce, educated and love her privacy and space. It's everything Indians are still trying to wrap their heads around.
?4. Messy relationships do exist and it's okay?
Some of us goof up in high school, some during graduation and some in our 30s, 40s and SATC tells you exactly that. It infact shows how relationships can be messy after marriage too and its okay,
Whether it was Charlotte trying for a baby or Mr. Big get married to Natasha instead of Carrie, Carrie having an affair with him despite Aiden or Samantha finally falling for a guy and not a 'dick' shows SATC was all about making mistakes, owning up, apologising and moving on. The show teaches you to accept your flaws and not brood over the past.
5. Some of the classic quotes can just make your day?
Oh, aren't they just the best in their lines. These ladies are so vocal and powerful, you love them. Even if you are not like them, you secretly want to talk like them and be like them. And rightly so, they have their heart up on their sleeve and they truly value each other's friendship. The four girls are each other's soulmates and boys are such people to have fun with - Yes, that's a line they promise to each other.?
Another romantic line that Mr Big and Carrie share are - Ever thine, ever mine, ever ours and of course - Me and you, just us two. They are simple, regular lines but you know it hits you home.
?6. You can call the girls - The Zero filter gang?
?Whether its discussing marriage during brunches or blowjobs at brunches, the girls could talk about anything under the sun at public places. The frankness of the show encourages you to feel its okay to address or seek opinion from your girlfriends on issues.
7. Girls fix each other's crown was taught way before in the 90s?
They're a messy bunch and they sure know it. They fight, judge, cry, but still come around. They sure know never to leave their BFF hanging alone. Whether it was Carrie showing up for Miranda at the New Years' eve when she was alone or when Samantha revealed she loved Richard or when Carrie messed up with Big, these 4 girls always stand by each other, no matter how a big mess. They for sure have a few misjudgments here and there but their intent is to hurt nobody including Sam Jones ( the boy who has the same name as Samantha).
8. 30s is the new 20s or 30s is the new COOL
They are the first set of girls on a TV show who make 30s sound like a sexy roller coaster, everyone wants to be on. Unlike other shows, where 30s and beyond is problematic, these 4 girls prove entering 30s its one hell of a ride and way better than 20s.
9.? Many shows and movies on girl gang and went but SATC is the OG of them all??
You have seen Friends, Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girls or Desperate Housewives but there is nothing like an episode of SATC to brighten your day. The way makers have shown the New York City, fashion, heels, content, selection of the cast, powerful dialogues, prove SATC is for keeps. Whether you are 20 or 40, Sex And The City sure can lift your spirits up at any time of the day.
Oh and hey, don't blame us if you get a drinking problem because these girls sure can't do without their cosmopolitans. P.S - You won't be able to take your eyes off Mr. Big.?
