Hush Hush's plot is based on an exceptional CEO of a PR agency named Ishi Sengupta who commits suicide, leaving her three best friends wondering why. The three buddies are now implicated in the crime because one of them kills a man who was likely abusing Ishi the day before she passed away. Police officer Geeta will find the cause of this, but the dirt fall goes deeper than one murder.
A catastrophe strikes four strong women who are also dealing with crushing personal responsibilities and social conditioning. The narrative almost resembles a Rubik's cube with a variety of characters that are explored.
*Spoiler Alert: If You Are Yet To Watch The Series, Please Revert From Here*
¡®1978 Baranagar, Kolkata¡¯, seems like the creators are trying to give subtle hints with one-liners like these. I adore mystery and thriller series, and these hints heighten the excitement.?Each episode begins with a text or a one-line description of the episode. Being the first episode of the series, I was hooked right from the first episode though some scenes were very slow. However, they managed to keep the thrill intact.?
There are two girls resting in bed who appear to be sisters. The black and white scene resembles a memory or flashback. But who are they? The answer to this is unclear at this point.
In its intro shot, Hush Hush portrays the world through the perspective of "self-actualized women," as it is filmed over the lush greenery and tall buildings in Gurugram's affluent neighbourhood. However, Gurugram is shown so wonderfully that I was astonished because I live in the city. It is very nicely done. Yes, it is magnificent, but they may have overlooked the large potholes and, oh, the water-logged societies!
Ishi, who is played by Juhi Chawla, is depicted in the media as the bad guy. I'm getting big Four More Shots Please vibes as a group of four girl gang members chat over cocktails about their difficulties. It's the sombre tone that sets it apart from the former.
¡®The Girl Gang¡¯ includes Dolly, a very typical Punjabi name (C'mon you could have done better guys), Saiba ¡®the rebellious kind¡¯, Zaira ¡® successful designer not happy with her profession though¡¯ and Ishi ¡®the secretive person.¡¯
Beyond the mayhem, Dolly's mother-in-law is the main irritant since she is so needy and seems to know her menstrual cycle by heart. Her MIL simply wants Dolly to have a son so that the Dalal family has an heir for the next generation. She is constantly after her life and acts like a typical sasu maa from the '90s.
Ishi is in danger, so it goes without saying that her friends arrive to help. But wait¡ªDolly just killed a man? I was trying to wrap my head around everything, but this series is moving way too quickly¡ªa murder occurs in the very first episode.
Okay, this episode is driving me insane since there are actually two murders in it. Ishi is dead, but it's not clear if it was a suicide or a murder. Last we saw her, she was consoling her friends and I could sense something is not right but has she been killed or was it a suicide??
A flashback from five years ago shows all of the pals together. But who exactly has birthday conversations about how one would be laid to rest? Apparently, Ishi and her friends are very excited to discuss how they would like to say their final ¡®Goodbye¡¯ to the world. I love a deep and meaningful conversations but hey, it seems weird discussing death on a birthday.?
Is it fashionable right now to play the cop? I don't know, but we value female cop protagonists, therefore it's great to see Karishma Tanna in the character of Inspector Geeta. However, her Haryanvi accent occasionally sounds artificial.
For a Rs 25 Lac ransom, the trio is being blackmailed. By none other than Meher, Zaira's staff. Meher says she suffers from bipolar disorder. She does exhibit signs of hostility. But all of this seems to be like a puzzle now.
Ahh, this makes sense now! Meera and Ishi were the two girls we saw at the start, and to burst my bubble, they are not sisters but orphans, as Inspector Geeta discovered during an investigation.
Ishi's death and her relationship with Meera are equally puzzling, and there still aren't any solid explanations. Meera's relation to Ishi and this case remains unclear. According to my calculations, I have a gut feeling that Meera is involved in something fishy.
Do you recall, I pointed out that the one-liners hint at what's going to happen in every episode?? This text comes at the start of the last episode, titled 'The Night Ishi Died.' Uncovering of the truth of this suspense - finally, the wait is over! My curious self can't wait to know what exactly happened. It's all been a mystery till now.?
The opening shot focuses on Moksha Shelter, a home for girls.?Juhi Chawla is seen wearing a pink saree and crying in the car. My emotions are currently bewildered and curious as to why? But did you notice that the show begins with the argument and ends by explaining the scene just like a full circle?
In a scene, she is seen having an argument with a man called Vinayak. And she says ¡®Do you seriously think you can save us all? Meera, her son, the girls and me?¡¯ We are at the end of the season and I'm still unsure whether Ishi is a good person as she presents to be or there is a darker side to her. There are so many questions that haven't been answered yet and it's the final episode like how did the friends bond?, How Ishi became so popular and wealthy being an orphan? How is she connected to Vinayak? Oh, these questions are literally killing me.?
Although the truth has now been revealed, I thought that Juhi received very little screen time; even though she was first portrayed as a villain, reality provides the answers to every query raised during the series. You must watch the series, as I won't be telling you the climax.
It wouldn't be incorrect to speculate that Hush Hush was influenced by Big Little Lies because the similarity between the two shows is unreal. Let's explore the similarities between these two investigating thrillers.
Characters in Big Little Lies have names that are traditionally American, such as Madeline, Celeste, and Jane, just like the characters in Hush Hush, whose names are typically Indian like Dolly, Saiba and Zaira.
However, there is one significant similarity that we would like to draw attention to: both series featured a murder that occurred and their lives changed. In Big Little Lies, the friends' lives are turned upside down when a murder happens in their idyllic community, opening up a can of worms.
The plot of Big Little Lies is quite similar to that of Hush Hush as it centres on a group of three wealthy young women from Monterey, California. In addition to portraying self-actualized ladies, Hush Hush is situated in the affluent neighbourhood of Gurugram's beautiful vegetation and lofty structures.
Big Little Lies won awards and received positive reviews after introducing viewers to the "Monterey Five," a varied group of women bound together by a horrifying reality, much like the Hush Hush trio of Dolly, Saiba, and Zaira. The police lacked any proof and had no clue of the reality, but both series feature four women who saw something and stayed quiet.
Over the course of seven gripping episodes in both series, the truth is revealed.
The series' main drawback was that it dragged on for seven episodes while only solving two murders, leaving many mysteries unanswered. It is an open-and-shut plot but feels stretched, the climax was left at a cliffhanger that feels forced. Given that she began her career with Dushmann, the series' creator Tanuja Chandra is not new to the industry. Her direction and vision lacked in some aspects.
Overall, it is a decent story that does provide decent entertainment.
The mystery-thriller web series includes stars like Juhi Chawla, Ayesha Jhulka, Soha Ali Khan, Shahana Goswami, Kritika Kamra, and Karishma Tanna.
