KWK8: Sunny Deol Was 'Hurt' By OMG 2 - Gadar 2 Clash, Had Requested Akshay For Change Of Date

The much-awaited second episode of Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee With Karan Season 8 dropped at midnight and it was nothing short of impressive.

Staying true to his promise, Karan had a no holds barred chat with the Deol siblings.?

While Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol are seldom seen in the public eye, this interview showed a different facet of their personalities.?

The episode kickstarted with Karan Johar giving a standing ovation to Sunny Deol for his film Gadar 2 as it smashed several box office records and became one of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Indian cinema.?

Sunny could be seen reminiscing about how he had undergone an exceptionally dull phase and had to wait for many years to get a taste of resounding success.

Talking about the same, Sunny Deol said, “After my first Gadar was released, it became a phenomenal hit. My struggle started after that. Before that I didn't know that it would be so difficult. I was doing films left right and centre. But things started becoming more difficult after that. Struggling in a way means I could not work with directors I wanted, I was not getting scripts that I wanted. That time everybody was saying, no you shouldn't work with senior directors, you should work with younger directors. Everyone was advising because, initially we were ourselves who would take decisions. Now there are such a big entourage of people who are trying to tell you yeh nahi karna, woh karna. This is good for you and that is bad for you.”

Sunny Deol Admitted That He Has Was Hurt When Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 Clashed With Gadar 2 At The Box Office

Karan Johar didn’t hold back and straight up asked Sunny about the big clash that couldn’t be diverted as Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 released on the same day as Gadar 2.?

Sunny said, "Obviously, one wanted the film to be a hit and I had an idea that the film would do well but how well I had no idea. The original Gadar became a massive hit instantly. Everyone that time also there were shows (referring to Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 which was released on the same day as Gadar 2) around the clock. I had no idea what the hell was happening but that's what I was hearing because back then, we used to just leave to shoot the next film."

He continued further, “I asked him. I said, ‘Please don’t do it if it’s in your hands’. But he said, ‘No, the studio and all…'”.

Sunny then said that he was told ‘two films can release’ simultaneously at the box office without affecting each other.?

“I said, ‘Okay, go ahead, I can just request, I can’t do anything more than that’.”?

Interestingly, KJo also pointed out how all of Sunny Deol’s big films in the past have had clashes with Aamir Khan’s movies.Case in point - Lagaan released on the same day as the original Gadar.

Well, as they say if the film is good it is bound to do good - clash or no clash!
