This is what a fan wrote after the makers of Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon starrer Adipurush announced that they are postponing the release date of the film by five months. Earlier scheduled to release on Jan 12, now the Om Raut directorial will hit the screens on June 16, 2023.
The cinematic adaptation of Ramayan, when the Adipurush trailer was released, it was welcomed with severe backlash. The VFX of the film in particular were massively trolled and compared to cartoons like Chota Bheem.?

Om Raut in a statement said, "Adipurush is not a film, but a representation of our devotion to Prabhu Sri Ram and commitment towards our sanskriti and history. In order to give a complete visual experience to the viewers, we need to give more time to the teams working on the film. Adipurush will now release on June 16, 2023. We are committed to make a film that India is proud of. Your support, love and blessings is what keeps us going.Ħħ

Talking about the film to Variety, Om Raut had revealed that the movie is set 7,000 years ago. In the movie, Prabhas' character is not called Rama, he is called Raghav, which is another name for Rama. Sita, played by Kriti Sanon, is called Janaki, while Saif Ali Khan's Ravana is Lankesh. Adipurush literally means "first man," but here the interpretation is that of "best man."
For the unversed, after the release of the trailer, Adipurush was not only trolled for its VFX, representation of Ravana and Rama, but it also embroiled legal controversy.?A legal notice was issued against Om Raut by the Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha for hurting religious sentiments.
According to?Zoom, the notice read, "The depiction of Hindu Gods and Goddesses is being done in a wrong way in this film.?In this film, Hindu Gods and Goddesses are shown in a very distorted form, wearing leather clothes and they are being seen speaking in an indecent manner. In fact, a very low level language has been used in the film which is provoking and hurting religious sentiments.?There are dialogues and depictions spreading religious and caste hatred in the film. Ramayana is our history and our spirit, however, in Adipurush, Lord Hanuman is shown as a Mughal."?
It further questioned, "Which Hindu bears a beard without a moustache that Lord Hanumanji has been shown to do?" The notice further mentioned that the film is a complete "Islamisation of Ramayana and of Lord Ram, Maa Sita, Lord Hanuman."?
Moreover, the movie also received flak for allegedly copying iconic scenes of the popular film Planet of The Apes and TV series Game of Thrones. Adipurush also made headlines for plagiarism as a Mumbai-based animation studio claimed that the film's poster had been copied from a poster of an animated film Lord Shiva.??
