When Akshay Kumar released Ram Setu's poster, many people called him the poster boy of BJP. Now, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has announced that he will sue the Bollywood actor and the movie makers over the false portrayal of Ram Setu issue.?
As per Swamy, the movie doesn't present the right facts. He says that the makers and Kumar have tampered the facts for the movie. He said that a suit has been finalised and his associate Advocate Satya Sabharwal will soon proceed with it.?
Also known as Adam's bridge, it is a chain of limestone shoals between the coasts of India and Sri Lanka. As per the Indian epic Ramayana, the bridge was built by Vanara Sena to rescue Sita, who Ravana kidnaped.?
Last year, senior academic and former Vice-Chancellor of Alagappa University A Ramasamy moved Supreme Court claiming that Ram Setu isn't an 'ancient monument'. This came after Subramanian Swamy had filed a petition in the court asking it to declare Ram Setu as a national monument.?
Quoting a 130-year-old study, he said that it is not a man-made monument. The study, for the unversed, called the narrative of Ramayana as a "pious fairy tale".?
Relying on an 1891 study, he argued, "Only a permanent structure could be declared an ancient monument. Adam¡¯s Bridge is not a permanent structure...sand dunes are formed due to the streaming relationship of the Indian Ocean and the influence of the monsoon on the superficial sediments of the sea, plus negative beach pushing. The whole phenomenon depends on change in sea level ... In short, Adam¡¯s Bridge is a constantly changing structure which is repeatedly constructed and destroyed by natural process. Sand dunes appear and disappear like bubbles... It would not [be] possible to declare the bubbles a national monument".
Apart from Akshay Kumar, Ram Setu also stars Nushrat Bharucha and Jacqueline Fernandez in pivotal roles. The movie directed by?Abhishek Sharma is slated to be released in Diwali this year.?
