The man who lived in a dessert for two years with no human contact apart from his Arab boss who tortured him day and night and didn't even allow him to take a shower for all those years, Najeeb whose job was to herd 700 goats started to believe he was one them at one point in life.?
One night in 1995, Najeeb finally got the opportunity to escape that he had been waiting for. His employer and his brother went to a wedding and Najeeb was all alone, finally, and so, he ran away. Without looking back, he kept running for a day and a half. He finally got to see himself in a stream after two years, and he was terrified looking at his reflection. After running for a day and a half, he finally found a road, where he stood for hours waiting for someone to give him a lift. A kind-hearted Arab man finally took him in and dropped him to Riyadh, where he managed to find a?Malayali restaurant. The kind Malayali running the restaurant gave him food to eat, water to bathe, and clothes to wear. He finally shaved and cut his hair.
Some of his relatives live in Riyadh. He finally met them and?surrendered to the authorities. After all, he had no passport or visa. He was cheated by the agent. He was put in jail for 10 days. For?Najeeb Muhammad, after all the torture he had undergone, he felt that life in jail was good. In August 1955, he was finally deported back to India. He finally met his son Safeer?and wife Sabiyath after two years.?
After coming back to India, Najeeb Muhammad resumed his life as a daily wage labourer. However, soon he got a job opportunity in?Bahrain, where he spent 20 years. Touched by his extraordinary tale, his son Safeer was also offered a job in the Lulu Group in Oman. He?now works as a fisherman in his native village,?Aarattupuzha,?where he lives with his wife Sabiyath, and daughter Safeena.?
