If reports are to be believed, Rahman organised Hare Krishna Kirtan at his residence in Dubai. Many devotees were seen singing?Hare Krishna Hare Rama bhajan while he was recording the same on his phone. He seemed to be enjoying it. He also wore the red religious thread, which is said to bring good luck and protection.

For the unversed, AR Rahman converted to Islam in 1989 when he was 23 years old. He was born Dileep Kumar but he along with his family embraced Islam. He made this decision after the music composer and his father RK Shekhar's death.?He said that during these critical days, he met a Sufi saint. "There was a Sufi who was treating him towards the end days before he died. We later met him after 7-8 years and that¡¯s when we led another spiritual path which gave us peace," he told BBC in an interview.?
In Nasreen Munni Kabir's book AR. Rahman: The Spirit of Music, the music composer revealed that it was his mother Kareema Begum who insisted on changing his name and?a Hindu saint who gave him this name. "He suggested the names: Abdul Rahman and Abdul Rahim and said that either name would be good for me. I instantly loved the name, Rahman. It was a Hindu astrologer who gave me my Muslim name," he was quoted as saying.
