Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao¡¯s stint in Anurag Kashyap¡¯s Gangs of Wasseypur was small yet a long-lasting one. Rao played Shamshad Alam in the film but are you aware that the Roohi actor was initially approached to play one of the leads?
Rao said, ¡°After watching LSD (Love Se Aur Dhokha), Anurag sir called me and said I am making a film and come and meet me. So when I met him, there was just a story, rather a structure of a story. And at that time, the film he narrated was Faisal Khan (Nawazuddin) vs Shamshad Alam (Rajkummar). Nawaz and I went to Wasseypur and I had a small tape recorder, which I used to record people there.¡±
¡°After writing finished 3-4 months later,¡± Rajkummar recalled, ¡°Anurag sir met me again and told me that my role had become much shorter. But I said no worries, sir. He asked me would you still do it and I said of course. I am getting a chance to work with you. And I am glad I did actually.¡±
Although Rajkummar had a small role in the film, he still got noticed by Hansal Mehta and got cast in Shahid making him win a national award for the same. He is currently enjoying the appreciation around his new film Monica, O My Darling. He will be next seen in Bheed and Mr And Mrs Mahi.
¡°I still remember I used to do martial arts, taekwondo. I was a gold medallist at the national level. But then dance also came into my life somewhere. We had a group and we used to dance on stage. Then, I started giving dance tuition. My first earning was in class VIII, when I used to teach a little girl dance at her home. I used to get ?300 for that.¡±
Rao further revealed what he did with that money. ¡°When I earned my first 300, I bought groceries for home with that. I bought everything in small quantities, things like dal, rice, sugar. Then, I went home and gave it (to my parents). That feeling won¡¯t come back no matter how much you do or earn in life. You can gift whatever you want to anyone but giving that stuff worth ?300 to my mother was a great feeling.¡±
