NCB officer Sameer Wankhede has come under the scanner after extortion charges have been levied against him.?The Mumbai Police has initiated a preliminary inquiry against the NCB Zonal Director an independent eyewitness leveled allegations of extortion against him.
Following this, Sameer Wankhede filed a petition seeking an arrest shield. While the Bombay High Court has disposed of his plea seeking interim protection, it said that he will be notified three days prior to his arrest as the?Maharashtra government has told the bench that its inquiry was still at a preliminary.
NCB officer Sameer Wankhede wrote in his petition, "I am being personally attacked by the state. My apprehension is that the state will arrest me any day. I want interim protection in form of no coercive relief".
He had also demanded that the probe be transferred to CBI.
"I am not a drug peddler. I am a Zonal Director. Give the probe to CBI or NIA but stop the vilification. The section specifically requires protection of a central government officer. The law requires the court to step in and protect me if my rights are likely to be violated".
