From Shamshera to Laal Singh Chaddha, before the release of every film, boycott becomes a trend on social media. The box office numbers of Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer LSC, as per the critics, are proof that the film's business was affected largely because of the #BoycottBollywood trend.
"Boycott karna ek individual right hai. Hum feminist, adivasi, animal rights ki baat karte hai toh. So, I think boycotting anything is an individual right. But the thing is, yeh boycott ki situation aayi kyu?", he said while interacting with media at the first-look-launch event of his forthcoming movie Bharateeyans.
"Aisa hi ki jaise koi toothpaste bechne wali company, colgate, for example, agar woh apne hi customers ka mazak udane lage, aur bole ki jo toothpaste use karte hai woh toh sab idiots hai. Toh aap kitne din tak woh toothpaste khareedenge? Toh yeh thoda introspect ki baat hai ki aaj kya kaaran hai ki yeh situation aayi hai."
He added, "Boycott bahut filmon ka hota hai. (The) Kashmir Files ka poore Bollywood ne, critics ne, media ne, exhibitors ne, sab ne hi boycott kar diya tha. But if your film is honest... duniya ki koi takat usse rok nahi sakti."
Not just Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha but even Akshay Kumar's Raksha Bandhan was being boycotted. Both of the movies haven't performed to their full potential, say the critics.?
Meanwhile, Vivek Agnihotri also slammed Anurag Kashyap who said in an interview that he hoped The Kashmir Files wouldn't become India's official entry to the Oscars this year. Kashyap has RRR has 99 percent chance of bagging a nomination if India chooses the SS Rajamouli movie instead.??
Agnihotri said, "IMPORTANT: The vicious, GENOCIDE-DENIER lobby of Bollywood has started their campaign against #TheKashmirFiles for #Oscars, under the leadership of the maker of #Dobaaraa".
