Vivek Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files?kickstarted a huge debate across the nation with several people supporting the film while others saying it's a propaganda movie based on an agenda. It has been months since the movie based on the 'genocide of Kashmiri Pandits' was released but the filmmaker is apparently still facing a barrage of issues. The film indeed created an uproar in the nation.?
One of the highest-grossing movies of 2022 also gave rise to many controversies. Agnihotri said he got threats after the release of the movie. He was questioned for the depiction of characters in the film. "I can¡¯t go out. I am a social person. I can¡¯t meet my own family. All my movement is restricted... this is so unfortunate," he was quoted as saying by PTI.?
He compared himself to Steven Spielberg and said that Spielberg didn't get threats for making Schindler¡¯s List but he did for making The Kashmir Files. "Imagine, Spielberg, getting security and threats after making the film. It never happened. But this happens in our country because of ignorance and journalists ask him very often why he had claimed 4,000 people were killed," he said.
He also said that nobody questioned Spielberg when he made the film and said that six million Jews were killed.?"Whatever he says, you believe it because in the moment of compassion and in a tragedy of such nature, you don¡¯t go on counting the dead bodies. There are dead bodies, that¡¯s enough."
"We gave them refuge in our country. It is unfortunate that they deceived us and started looting and converting the people in Kashmir," he claimed.
Calling India an open source faith system, he said, "The close source faith system is: I tell you, therefore you believe. Who has written the code, I don¡¯t know. The code has said this is it, so you have to believe it. If you don¡¯t believe it you can¡¯t use the code. If you say anything against the code, we will destroy you. You have seen this recently in Udaipur."
Vivek Agnihotri was talking about the Udaipur incident wherein two men killed a tailor after entering his shop posing as customers over a social media post in which he had allegedly extended support to BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's remarks who had made a controversial statement on Prophet Mohammad.
