Baba Siddique’s October 12 murder in Mumbai has shaken the power corridors of the entire country. From politicians to police, everyone is on their toes. The investigating agency has been vigorously unfolding hidden layers in this case that involve links to jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and actor Salman Khan. What happened on the day of Baba Siddique’s murder?

For the uninitiated, Baba was gunned down outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office the exact moment he was about to enter his car in the Bandra area. According to Police, three shooters fired six-seven rounds which hit Siddique's abdomen and chest and also injured a bystander. Investigators recovered two pistols and 28 live rounds of ammunition. Siddique’s three police guards were distracted by a ‘smoke firecracker’ planned by shooters.

Bishnoi claims responsibility and blames Baba’s friendship with Salman

In a purported Facebook made on October 13 by Lawrence’s aide Shubham Lonkar, the gang linked Siddique’s murder to the death of Anuj Thapan who opened fire outside Salman’s house on April 14 and died by alleged suicide in police custody on May 1. The long note read, “Salman Khan, we did not want this war but you made our brother lose his life. Today the pool of decency of Baba Siddique is closed or at one time he was under MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) with Dawood.”

“The reason for his death was his links to Dawood (Ibrahim) and Anuj Thapan in Bollywood, politics, and property dealings. We have no personal enmity with anyone. However, anyone who helps Salman Khan or the Dawood gang should be prepared,” the post read. Ever since this happened, a curfew-kind situation has been developed outside the actor’s house due to heightened security.

How is the investigation shaping up so far in Baba Siddique’s murder?

Mumbai Police have accessed custody of all the people arrested in this case and are on the lookout list. “We have set up 15 teams and investigation is on to identify who provided logistical support to the shooters,” senior police official Datta Nalawade said as per BBC. To be clear, the cops have not admitted to the Bishnoi link in this case officially and it's still under investigation.

For the unversed, Lawrence Bishnoi is an accused in several high-profile cases and is currently locked inside Gujarat's?high-security?Sabarmati Central Jail. Despite being in prison since 2015, Bishnoi has executed several crimes outside including the heart-wrenching murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. In fact, he even fearlessly appeared in a 2022 TV interview from inside the jail.

Who all has been arrested so far in Baba Siddique’s murder?

Ever since October 12, the authorities have arrested four individuals so far. This includes alleged shooters Haryana’s Gurmail Baljit Singh (23) and Uttar Pradesh’s Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap (19) from Uttar Pradesh. Police have also nabbed Harishkumar Balakram Nisad (23) and co-conspirator Praveen Lonkar (Shubham Lonkar’s brother).

Nishad is the person who ran a scrap shop in Pune which was located right next to Praveen's dairy shop. Praveen reportedly gave Nishad Rs. 60,000 to buy a secondhand bike which the shooters used for tracking Baba Siddique. “Nishad rode this bike from Pune to Mumbai and handed it over to the shooters near their rented room in Kurla,” TOI quoted a senior police official as saying.

Strangely, the arrested accused shooters confessed to learning to kill by watching YouTube videos and were paid a hefty amount to carry out the murder. Officials as per ANI also revealed that over 10 attempts were made to kill Siddique earlier which failed due to one or another reason.
