So, next time you plan your journey, consider hopping on a Vande Bharat Express for an unforgettable travel experience. With PM Modi's vision driving its expansion, the journey ahead looks promising for Indian Railways and passengers alike.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently highlighted that his government's focus on development is aimed at nation-building rather than winning elections. During an event in Gujarat's Ahmedabad, he launched development projects worth Rs 1,06,000 crore for the country. These include railway projects totaling Rs 85,000 crore and a petrochemicals complex in Gujarat's Bharuch district with an investment of Rs 20,600 crore.
"Some people try to look at our efforts through the electoral lens. Let me tell you that we undertake developmental works as part of a mission to build the nation, not to form a government (by winning elections). We want to ensure that our youth do not suffer what their past generations had suffered. This is Modi's guarantee," the PM said.
Modi said that in the last 10 years, his government spent around six times more amount for the development of Railways than was done earlier.
In just two months of 2024, his government inaugurated and laid the foundation of Rs 11 lakh crore projects, he added.
PM Modi highlighted that his government has significantly invested in railway development, spending six times more than previous administrations over the last decade. He stressed the need for prioritizing development over political gains, pointing out the merger of the railway budget with the main Union budget to ensure adequate funding for railway development.
"Earlier, lawmakers used to clap in Parliament over the railway minister's announcement of giving stoppage to a train or increasing the number of coaches. This was the thinking back then. What would have happened if such an attitude persisted in the 21st century too? That is why the first thing I did was to merge the railway budget with the main Union budget so that the Centre's fund is made available for the development of Railways," he said.
The Prime Minister discussed the challenges faced by the railway sector in the past, including delays, insufficient electrification, and passenger inconveniences. He highlighted his government's commitment to improving railway infrastructure, including the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) project, which aims to enhance freight transportation efficiency.
PM Modi inaugurated various railway facilities and flagged off 10 new Vande Bharat trains, along with extending the routes of four existing ones. Additionally, he launched other projects such as multi-modal cargo terminals, digitalization of railway stations, rail coach restaurants, and solar-powered stations. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for a petrochemicals complex and Ekta Malls, aiming to boost economic growth and employment opportunities.
